Model of an air gap in a magnetic core. It represents a linear relationship between the magnetic flux \Phi and the magneto-motive force \mathcal{F}.

where \mu_0 = 4π × 10−7N∕A2 is the vaccum peremeability, A is the cross-sectional area and l the length of the flux path.
